Avian Flu on the Farm

An outbreak of avian flu in the North Country could devastate both large-scale poultry farms and backyard chicken coops. Anita Demming is with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County. She told David Sommerstein there are few big poultry operations in the region. One is Giroux Farms in Clinton County. Demming says the chickens are kept in enclosed barns to reduce the chance of them contracting the disease.
