Heard Up North: To Live, and Die, in Tupper Lake
Nov 21, 2005 — The Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake has decided to buy two nursing homes in the Adirondacks. Uihlein Mercy on Lake Placid and Mercy Healthcare in Tupper Lake had been losing money for years, due in part to declining Medicaid reimbursements.
The hospital's buy-out means that both nursing homes will remain open. Dozens of elderly residents won't be forced to relocate. 91-year-old Rita Chaisson has lived at Mercy Healthcare in Tupper Lake for 6 years.
