Jefferson County Woman Wants Greater Gay/Lesbian Tolerance

Listen to this story
Legalizing same-gender marriage was one of a number of issues presented yesterday during Gay-Lesbian Equality and Justice Day in Albany. And today advocates for gay rights will meet individually with legislators to talk about state and local laws and policies on discrimination, hate crimes, adoption, and domestic partner benefits. A Jefferson county woman says a change in community attitudes towards gays and lesbians has long been needed in the North Country. Bobbi Petranchuk, whose teenage gay son dropped out of school because of harassment, formed a P-FLAG chapter earlier this year. P-FLAG is "Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays", a group that advocates for gay rights. Petranchuk told Todd Moe she has a message for legislative leaders.
