(06/05/06) On Sunday, the Adirondack Center for Writing held their first annual literary awards at a ceremony in Blue Mountain Lake. The Center honored books published over the last two years. Keene Valley author Russell Banks won the top prize for best fiction with his novel The Darling. Margaret Bartley was an upset winner for best non-fiction with Grisha, a book about a famous Russian-American cellist who settled in the Adirondacks. Blue Mountain Lake author Mason Smith won the People's Choice award for his novel Florida. Brian Mann sat down after the ceremony with Betsy Folwell, publisher of Adirondack Life magazine, and Nathalie Thill, head of the Adirondack Center for Writing.
