Racing in the Adirondack wilderness

The Adirondacks have long been famous as a destination for world-class sporting events. From the Olympic venues in Lake Placid to international rugby tournaments in Saranac Lake to yacht races and bass tournaments on Lake Champlain, the region draws thousands of athletes every year. A small but growing number of these competitive events are being held deep in the Adirondack backcountry. Supporters say races are a perfect use for wilderness areas. But as Brian Mann reports, some critics say athletes are disrupting the serenity of the Park's wildest places.
