Oct 26, 2006 — Former President Bill Clinton will campaign in Latham today, stumping for Democratic challenger Kirsten Gillibrand. Gillibrand hopes to unseat incumbent Republican John Sweeney. The Glens Falls Post Star had scheduled a debate between the two candidates for this evening. But Sweeney announced this week that he wouldn't face Gillibrand. Sweeney also failed to appear at a debate on Monday held by the League of Women Voters in Saratoga County. Gillibrand took to the stage alone, addressing a small audience. As Brian Mann reports, the lack of a face-to-face meeting is the latest development in one of the nation's most toxic congressional races.
