Apr 03, 2007 — From the outside, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez looks like a wild Latin revolutionary. He's certainly a provocateur: he's called President Bush "the devil," Condoleeza Rice "illiterate," and the UN the enemy "empire." He cultivates a very public friendship with Fidel Castro. George Ciccariello-Maher is a scholar and St. Lawrence University graduate now spending a year looking at Chavez and the Venezuelan revolution from the inside. He spoke with Martha Foley.
