Canada's Rideau Canal hits 175th anniversary

Listen to this story
The Rideau Canal was just named a United Nation's World Heritage Site. The canal joins a UNESCO list that includes the Statue of Liberty, Machu Pichu and the Great Wall of China. Fear of war gave birth to the canal. Today, it's a recreational waterway, still connecting Kingston to Montreal. Ottawa correspondent Lucy Martin was in scenic Merrickville for one of the year's many 175th anniversary celebrations.
