A statue has gone on display in Park City, Utah, honoring the Shea family of Lake Placid. Jimmy Shea Jr. won a gold medal in the skeleton sled race at the Salt Lake Olympic Games three years ago. The statue honors Shea, his father and grandfather. All three competed in Winter Olympics and they're considered the first family ever to send three generations of athletes to the Winter games. The sculpture was commissioned by Zions Bank for its Park City branch. Zions Bank CEO Scott Anderson told KSL TV that Jimmy Shea's skeleton win was "one of the highlights" of the Salt Lake competition. The statue, called "Three Generations", is now on display across the street from the Olympic Park where Jimmy Shea won his gold medal. Shea, who now divides his time between Lake Placid and Park City, took third place in last weekend's America's Cup skeleton race at Mount Van Hoevenberg. But he's taken much of the last two years off, in part because of lingering problems with blood flow to one of his legs. The condition required surgery in 2002. Shea spoke this week with Brian Mann about his future — and his chances of competing in next year's Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, which begin on February 10th 2006.
