Poll: Discontent With Sweeney, GOP

Nov 06, 2006 — Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand's narrow 3-point advantage is within the poll's margin of error. According to Siena College, Gillibrand leads Republican John Sweeney by 9 points in southern counties of the 20th congressional district and is running dead even here in the North Country. The two candidates hold equal support among men and women. The poll was taken last week just as the first news of the Sweeneys' domestic incident was coming out. Brian asked Siena College spokesman Steven Greenberg whether the numbers could shift again before Tuesday. Go to full article

Aug 08, 2006 — Congressman John Sweeney represents much of the North Country. The Republican has won re-election easily in the past, but this year faces a surprisingly stiff challenge from Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. Sweeney stumbled earlier in the spring, plagued by health concerns, ethics questions, and by a flap over his appearance at a frat party. In North Country Congressional Race, National Attention Fills War Chests

Apr 19, 2006 — The race for the North Country congressional seat now held by Republican John Sweeney is drawing national attention and national money. The district includes Glens Falls and much of the Adirondacks. The latest campaign documents released this week show that Sweeney and top Democratic challenger Kirsten Gillibrand both raised more than $300,000 in the first quarter of this year.
