Jun 24, 2008 — Somewhat muted in the surprise over Senator Bruno's announcement not to seek re-election is a bizarre flap involving Governor David Paterson and North Country Senator Darrel Aubertine. On Saturday, Aubertine said he was offered the chairmanship of the New York Power Authority, and that he declined it. Yesterday, Governor Patterson said the Senator from Jefferson County was never offered the job in the first place. GOP rallies behind Renzi against Aubertine
Jun 03, 2008 — Less than a month ago, North Country Republicans were floating lots of names to take on Democrat Darrel Aubertine in November. Senator Aubertine upset Will Barclay in a bruising and costly special election last winter. Even former Senator Jim Wright said he might abandon his new lobbying job to win back his old seat. But the GOP state and county committees have rallied behind a surprise candidate: Jefferson County attorney David Renzi. Renzi's a Watertown native. He's young at 39 years old. And he faired well in a failed Assembly candidacy in 2002. Since announcing his candidacy for Senate, Renzi has been openly critical of the failed Barclay campaign, which was run by powerful Albany insiders and featured negative attack ads from the get-go.
