Preview: "Enchanted April" in Canton

Some of the members of Canton's community theater troupe stopped by to talk about their upcoming winter production, Enchanted April. With settings in London, on trains and an Italian villa, the show is a new incarnation of an old-fashioned romantic comedy. The serious side of clowning at Potsdam

When we think of clowns, most of us imagine wild makeup, rainbow wigs and silly antics. But there's also a serious, sincere side to clowning. Miguel Cortazar, a native of the Basque Country in Spain, has been creating and performing solo works as a clown, mime and actor for over 20 years. He's performed throughout Europe and Mexico. Preview: "The Boycott" at Pendragon

The Boycott, written and performed by Kathryn Blume, will be at Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. It tells the story of the First Lady of the U.S. launching a nationwide sex strike to fight global warming. Blume is an Artistic Associate at Vermont Stage Company in Burlington. She's also co-founder of the Lysistrata Project, the first worldwide theatrical event for peace. Life as a young actor at Stratford Fest

A group of young actors has begun another season of intensive classical theatre training at the Stratford Festival's conservatory. They'll take classes on voice, movement, music and song. Earlier this summer, NCPR theatre critic Connie Meng visited the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, and spoke with actor Raquel Duffy. She's a new member of the acting company. They talked about life at Stratford for young actors including whether they get to choose their theatrical roles.  Go to full article
