Apr 21, 2004 — Flags flew at half-mast yesterday in Glens Falls, as the community mourned the death of Nathan Brown. Brown, who was 21 years old, died on Easter Sunday, while serving in Iraq. Apr 19, 2004 — More than seven hundred National Guard and Reserve soldiers from New York state have taken up positions inside Iraq. This morning, Army chaplain Eric Olsen continues his audio diary from the front lines. This dispatch was mailed home well before last week's firefight, which left one north country soldier dead. The sounds of combat you'll hear in Major Olsen's diary were all recorded during training exercises on the Kuwait-Iraq border.

Fort Drum Soldiers Injured in Afghansitan
Nov 24, 2003 — A helicopter crash in Afghanistan yesterday killed 5 soldiers and injured 7. Families and units of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers involved have been notified, but base officials haven't provided further details yet. Two soldiers from Fort Drum's 10th Mountain Division were seriously injured yesterday in Afghanistan when their vehicle struck a land mine. David Sommerstein has more. Go to full article

Drum Troops Deploy; Schumer Urges Military Support
Mar 11, 2003 — Some 250 active duty and reserve soldiers departed from Fort Drum yesterday for an undisclosed destination in the Central Area of Command, which includes the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. They're from the Army's 883rd Medical Company and the 511th Military Police. New York Senator Charles Schumer was there to see them off.
