For the Love of Wood: Adirondack Carousel's Creatures Come to Life

Work is underway on a menagerie of wooden figures that will be displayed in the Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake. Organizers say the carousel building, still in the planning stages, will incorporate the fun of a traditional merry-go-round with the look of an Adirondack camp. It will include 20 indigenous animals. Carvers from across New York and the country are donating their time and talents to create the carousel animals. But you won't find any horses in this collection, instead there's a beaver, raccoon, eagle, loon, trout and even a blackfly. People: Paul Deo, Neo Soul Artist, Visits SUNY-Potsdam

Paul Deo, an accomplished Neo Soul Artist and filmmaker, is visiting SUNY Potsdam this week, conducting workshops, working with students to create a mural, and putting on an art show. Throughout this week he's working with the Caribbean and Latin American Student Society, as well as other art students, to create and install a mural in the Ethnic Lounge of Unity at SUNY Potsdam.
Deo says his artwork is a combination of his own reality and imagination. He told Todd Moe he grew up in New York City and now lives in New Orleans.  Go to full article

Canton Celebrates Frederic Remington's Birthday

Frederic Remington's birthday will be celebrated this weekend in Canton with two days full of events and exhibits for artists, art lovers and history buffs.
