Lake Placid/Wilmington connecting youth with artists

Teens in the High Peaks are taking part in a series of arts workshops this fall hosted by the Lake Placid/Wilmington Connecting Youth and Communities Coalition in Lake Placid and Wilmington. In Wilmington, the program will be held Tuesday afternoons in the basement of the Church of the Nazarene (3:30-5:30 pm). The Lake Placid workshops are held Wednesday evenings (6-8 pm) at the Shipman Youth Center. Doug Haney, a spokesman for the coalition, says the free afternoon-evening arts workshops are for teens in grades 7-12.  Go to full article

Artists open their studio doors

NCPR is media sponsor for the St. Lawrence County Arts Council annual Artists' Studio Tour this weekend. The event starts Friday and continues through Sunday afternoon. The public is invited to enjoy self-guided tours of 35 artist studios all around St. Lawrence County. People: Paul Deo, Neo Soul Artist, Visits SUNY-Potsdam

Paul Deo, an accomplished Neo Soul Artist and filmmaker, is visiting SUNY Potsdam this week, conducting workshops, working with students to create a mural, and putting on an art show. Throughout this week he's working with the Caribbean and Latin American Student Society, as well as other art students, to create and install a mural in the Ethnic Lounge of Unity at SUNY Potsdam.
Deo says his artwork is a combination of his own reality and imagination. He told Todd Moe he grew up in New York City and now lives in New Orleans.  Go to full article

Art Auction to Benefit NYC Artists

SUNY-Plattsburgh art students are teaming up to help some New York City artists who lost their studios in the World Trade Center on September 11th. The artists lost their life's work, equipment and materials.
