At last year's Potsdam Food Co-op Baking Contest
(12/01/11) The Potsdam Food Co-op will hold its 14th annual Baking Contest and Silent Auction this Sunday in the Co-op's Carriage House Bakery. You can sample some of the homemade holiday confections and savory treats and then vote on your favorites. Proceeds from the silent auction will go to Potsdam Neighborhood Center. Todd Moe spoke with Lynn Clarke-Stone who's coordinating this season's event.

Canton youngsters build their gingerbreading skills at a recent workshop
(11/24/06) Just as the oven begins to cool from the Thanksgiving feast, comes another seasonal favorite - Holiday baking. Fruitcakes, cookies and sweets are an annual tradition in many households this time of year. During the month of December, visitors to the Traditional Arts In Upstate New York, or TAUNY, gallery in Canton will be asked to vote for their favorite gingerbread house. Earlier this month, TAUNY offered a chance to learn the tasty art of building gingerbread structures. Gingerbread architect Sue Wilder held gingerbreading workshops for eager bakers to learn some secrets of making gingerbread houses. Beth Robinson, co-host of NCPR's monthly arts program Open Studio, stopped by one of the workshops.

The Potsdam Food Co-op's 7th Annual Holiday Bake Off is this Sunday from noon to 4 pm. You might say baking this time of year is a very real example of the warmth of the Holidays. Todd Moe chats with Potsdam Co-op Purchaser Amy Savitskie about Sunday's Bake Off, which is also a fundraiser for the Potsdam Neighborhood Center.

Late last month a group of eager gingerbread bakers gathered in Canton to learn some secrets of making gingerbread houses - from cabins to castles. As Todd Moe reports, these novices got a head start on their edible real estate.

Meet the Masters: Bea Reynolds, Grand Champion Cook
(05/29/00) Bea Reynolds of Burke has always been well known to her family, church, and community as a special home maker. Helping feed a big family, she learned early from her mother. Bea began in 1985 to enter breads, doughnuts, rolls, cookies, cakes, canned vegetables, fruit, pickles, and pies at the Franklin County Fair in Malone. She came away the Grand Champion Cook.
