Preview: Adirondack Elemental

The Rebecca Kelly Ballet has returned for another summer of dance programs for rural youth in the North Country. Rebecca Kelly has been making ballets inspired by the beauty of the Adirondacks for over two decades. Todd Moe talks with her about bringing ballet and modern dance to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, SUNY Potsdam and other venues for over two decades. She and her dance company began summer visits in the mid-1980s. A new cycle of three ballets, Adirondack Elemental, debuts this month.  Go to full article

Preview: The Polar Express Ballet in Watertown

Since its publication in 1985, Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express has touched the hearts of millions of readers. It tells the story of a Christmas Eve when a boy is awakened by a steam train that pulls up in front of his house and takes him and other children to the North Pole. Two years ago, the book became a movie, and this weekend a group of dancers in Watertown will bring the story to the stage as a ballet. Shoppers at Plattsburgh's Wal-Mart got more than bargains recently. Dancers in tutus and kilts entertained in the parking lot, and shoppers became an unexpected audience.
