For this bassoonist it was love at first sight

A member of the woodwind family takes center stage at The Northern Symphonic Winds winter concert in Potsdam this weekend. Bassoonist Carol Lowe will perform von Weber's Andante and Hungarian Rondo in C Minor with the ensemble. The bassoon is one of the oldest and largest double-reed instruments. And even though Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi wrote three dozen bassoon concertos, it's often considered the clown of the orchestra. For many young musicians it has less going for it - the awkwardness of the instrument and the challenge of making its reeds. But bassoonists are a proud lot.
