(08/05/10) George W. Bush was in the Adirondacks over the weekend. According to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, the former President stayed with Harlon Crow, a Texas businessman who owns Camp topridge on Upper St. Regis Lake.

During an outing on Saturday, Bush met a group of birders from the Wild Center who were visiting the Bloomingdale Bog trail near Saranac Lake.

Kendra Ormerod, an interpretive naturalist at the Wild Center, spoke with Brian Mann.

(01/12/07) President Bush's plan to send more than 20,000 additional troops to Iraq sparked protests yesterday around the country. Hundreds of marchers crammed a traffic island in Times Square in New York City. Protesters also gathered in this region, with marches in Elizabethtown, Glens Falls, and in Saranac Lake. Commentary: Paul Hetzler on election-year tax cuts
(05/18/06) President Bush is hoping for an election-year boost from a $70-billion tax cut package he signed yesterday. The measure extends a pair of tax breaks - one benefiting investors, the other upper-middle-income families. Democrats contend the tax breaks are another gift to the rich that only plunges the nation deeper in debt. President Bush's approval ratings are the lowest of his presidency, and congressional re-election campaigns are getting underway. The tax cuts are seen as one way the president can galvanize his and the GOP's core supporters. Commentator Paul Hetzler wonders how a significant chunk of that political base can go along.

According to the latest Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan survey, confidence has risen to a level not seen since late 2007. And if confidence is on the rise, that could affect both the economy and the 2012 campaign.
 
Jeff Neely, the regional official at the General Services Administration who hosted a 2010 taxpayer-funded conference that became a scandal as details about excessive spending, gifts and lavish parties were revealed, is no longer with the agency.
