World Carp Championship Coming to Waddington

The 2005 World Carp Championship, the largest and most prestigious carp sporting event in the world will be held on the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, June 4th through the 10th. Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties, including weighing the fish. Todd Moe spoke with Sean Manning, one of the directors of the American Carp Society, about the upcoming carp tournament.  Go to full article

Congress Approves Asian Carp Barrier Funding

The U.S. House and Senate recently passed a bill that will help keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes. As the Great Lakes Radio Consortium's Celeste Headlee reports, the federal government will contribute nearly $2.5 million to help repel the fish.  Go to full article

St. Lawrence to Host World Carp Tournament

St. Lawrence Carp Tourny A Success

Organizers are calling the inaugural St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament a success. 100 young carp anglers reeled in 55 carp over the weekend. Anglers from Ogdensburg, Waddington, and Lisbon finished in the top ten. The grand prize went to a 15 year-old carp enthusiast from a suburb of London. The Thrill of Carp Fishing

Carp are largely considered the mucky, ugly bottom-feeders of the fish world in this country. But in Great Britain and Europe, they're prized fighters and millions of anglers fish day and night to haul in a trophy catch. This week, a hundred young carp anglers and their families descend on the North Country for the inaugural St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament. Organizers hope the event will make the St. Lawrence a premier fishing destination. Anglers Prepare for Carp Tournament

Carp anglers are scoping out the hottest spots on the St. Lawrence River in preparation for this month's International Junior Carp Tournament. Hundreds of young people, mostly from Europe and England, will compete.
