Endangered Species In A Cold Season: Tracking Indiana Bats In The Champlain Valley

The North Country's frosty spring is a nuisance for humans, but for wildlife the cold weather can be deadly. Researchers in the Adirondacks say bats are especially vulnerable. The tiny animals are just emerging from their caves weak and hungry after a long winter's hibernation. Flood Risk High in Adirondacks, Champlain Valley; St. Lawrence Valley Sees Low Risk

County officials in the north country say the chance for spring flooding is high this year, with deep, wet snow continuing to build in the mountains. Towns and villages in a half dozen river valleys are bracing for what could be very wet April. Emergency officials in St. Lawrence County say there's little likelihood of floods in their county. Train Derailment Disrupts Traffic in Champlain Valley

A southbound freight train derailed Saturday night in Westport, sparking a propane fire and disrupting rail traffic. As Brian Mann reports, officials say the accident occurred near the Boquet River and could have sparked a major environmental disaster.  Go to full article
