(03/09/12) One of Canada's top choirs celebrates its tenth season with a performance in Ottawa Saturday night. The Ottawa Bach Choir has performed its brand of Baroque music around the world and had its Carnegie Hall debut last May. Todd Moe talks with the ensemble's founder and Artistic Director Lisette Canton about Saturday night's performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion -- an authentic Baroque concert featuring an array of Canadian and international early music stars.

<i>On the Town</i> features more than 70 SUNY Potsdam students.
(11/10/10) Love and adventure in Manhattan in the 1940s comes to the Snell Music Theatre at SUNY Potsdam this weekend. More than 70 drama, dance and music students are part of the collaborative production of On the Town. The show opens Thursday night (7:30 pm) and continues through Saturday night.

On the Town premiered on Broadway in 1944 and features the music of Leonard Bernstein. It includes numerous dance numbers and memorable songs like "New York, New York" and "I Can Cook Too." Todd Moe spoke with the show's musical director, choreographer and five members of the cast who are from the North Country.

Preview: "Sing Fling" in Watertown
(10/20/10) The Northern Blend Chorus is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a new recording and concert on Saturday night. Chorus president Laura Oakes told Todd Moe that the group is made up of women who love to sing pop tunes, spirituals and patriotic tunes in the barbershop style.

Opera takes Carthage teen to stage of Kennedy Center
(06/23/10) A teenager from the tiny Jefferson County town of Carthage will soon step onto one of the nation's biggest stages. Gabrielle LaBare was selected to sing opera and other choral arrangements in the National Honor Ensembles at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

She'll take the stage with other student musicians, representing 35 states. The National Association for Music Education considers LaBare and the other performers the best in the United States.

Even though she's only 16, LaBare told Jonathan Brown she's been singing quite a while. more

Many of their rehearsals take place in the car, en route to performances.

(11/17/06) If you do a google search for the opera, The Sailor Boy and the Falcon, the first site you see is norway.org, which makes sense since the opera is based on a story that takes place mostly in Norway. But it's also a good example of just how much attention this weekend's world premiere of the opera at the Crane School of Music has generated. Joel Hurd has this preview.
