Preview: Gospel Music in Blue Mountain Lake

The Church of the Transfiguration hosts the gospel group "Expressions of faith" this weekend. The Baltimore-based ensemble will perform a series of "floating" concerts from the Blue Mountain Lake Boat Livery at various camps on the lake. Their main concert is Sunday morning at 9:30 at the church in Blue Mountain Lake. Preview: Early English Operas at Crane

The Crane School of Music Opera Ensemble and Orchestra present Venus & Adonis and Dido & Aeneas this weekend. The two, one-act Baroque operas will be performed tonight and Saturday night at 7:30, and Sunday afternoon at 3, in Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam. Preview: Downing College Choir in Blue Mountain Lake

The Downing College Chapel Choir of Cambridge University presents a concert tonight at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake. This is the choir's third visit to the Adirondacks. The group performed a series of concerts in Manhattan last week, and will visit Vermont later this week. Seagle Colony Breaks Ground for New Space

The Seagle Music Colony in Schroon Lake breaks ground on a new building Friday afternoon. Since 1915, the Seagle Colony has offered talented young singers a secluded summer haven to polish their skills. The new studio building will provide more space for rehearsals, costumes and set construction. Todd Moe talks with Phyllis Shames Korn, a longtime Seagle Colony patron, who's overseeing fundraising efforts.  Go to full article

The Crane School of Music's Opera Ensemble and Orchestra presents the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Mikado, tonight through Sunday afternoon in the Snell music theater at SUNY Potsdam. Music With a Mission

A group of church musicians has released a CD of Christmas carols, to share a love of music and as a fundraiser. Rejoice contains music for the season, recorded earlier this fall at the Ecumenical Choir Festival 2002. Proceeds will benefit people in need. Todd Moe talks with Ted Tate about "Ministries in the North Country", or MINC, one of the groups behind the idea for Rejoice.

Homecoming: Opera Star Returns to Crane

Stephanie Blythe is one of the hottest young American singers, with several top awards and regular appearances at the Metropolitan Opera under her belt. She's an alumna of SUNY Potsdam and returns for a concert Saturday night at 7:30 in the Hosmer Concert Hall. Music critics agree Blythe was born an opera singer, with a huge, rich voice that is ideal for opera houses.
