Canton, NY, Sep 07, 2012 — Workers are three months into what they call "a total reconstruction" of the village of Canton's Main Street. One of the North Country's main east-west corridors, Route 11, is being detoured onto side streets.
Downtown is hot, dusty, and congested. And there's no shade because all the historic maple trees had to be torn down.

Six die in crash with tractor-trailer in Antwerp
Antwerp, NY, Jul 20, 2012 — UPDATE: The Watertown Daily Times reports James A. Mills Jr., the truck driver who caused the crash, was released without charges Thursday night while state police continue their investigation.
Six people died yesterday in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Route 11 in the town of Antwerp, in Jefferson County. The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. near Fox Ranch Road and Dickson Road just south of the St. Lawrence county line. Vehicles were slowing down for a paving project, and a tractor-trailer in the southbound lane failed to slow down as it approached the work zone, slamming into several other vehicles and causing a chain reaction crash involving six vehicles. Old Forge Arts Center construction back on track
Old Forge, NY, Mar 30, 2010 — The Arts Center of Old Forge got some good news this month. A new building project, just across the road, had been on hold due to a lack of funds. But with a new USDA loan and grant that total $3-million, construction is expected to resume next month. Todd Moe spoke with Arts Center director Jennifer Potter Hayes.
