New book celebrates region's "comfort foods"

For many of us, food is an important part of the holiday season. In the North Country, we have lots of regional food traditions and flavors -- maple syrup, apples, wildgame and locally grown vegetables. Food writer and community organizer Annette Nielsen has edited a new collection of recipes from four decades of Adirondack Life magazine. She spoke with Todd Moe about picking out dozens of recipes for the new book that celebrates the region's favorite foods.  Go to full article

Preview: Farm to Chef tasting event

A number of restaurants and cafeterias in schools and hospitals are teaming up with local growers with a simple goal: serving locally grown food. These chefs are turning to neighboring farms to get local ingredients, and they're learning to cook with the seasons. The Northern Adirondack Trading Cooperative is sponsoring a "Farm to Chef" tasting event on Monday at Beartown Farms in Antwerp. Stalking a celebrated spring staple

This year, NCPR is celebrating its 40th anniversary and food in the North Country. As part of "Local Flavor", our occasional series on growing, cooking and eating locally, Todd Moe heads into the woods near Canton in search of wild leeks. Book review: "Elsie's Biscuits"

Laurey Masterton grew up in Vermont, the daughter of the founders of Blueberry Hill Inn and authors of the Blueberry Hill cookbooks. Masterton now owns a gourmet food store in North Carolina. In Elsie's Biscuits she tells about growing up in Vermont, losing ones parents, and then finding a way back to them through food and stories. Betsy Kepes has our review.  Go to full article

One whopper of a fish story
