Police say deadly Lake Placid car chase handled properly

State Police and the Police Chief in Lake Placid say a high-speed car chase that ended in a fatal accident last week in the Adirondacks was handled properly.

The crash on Rt. 86 in Ray Brook left a Potsdam couple dead and their eleven-year-old daughter with serious injuries.

In the days since the accident, questions have circulated in social media about whether police made a mistake in pursuing Trevor Sisto, age 20, who was fleeing a hit-and-run accident in Lake Placid.  Go to full article

14-year-old Quebec girl dies in Adirondack bus crash

The victim of a fatal bus accident in Essex County on Friday has been identified as 14-year-old Chelssy Mercier from Quebec.

State Police say Mercier died when the tourist bus overturned in North Hudson while traveling from Quebec to New York City with 55 passengers. Officials say Mercier's mother was also aboard the bus.

There's no word yet on what may have caused the accident. According to police, the bus operated by a company called Autobus Fleur de Lys entered the median and flipped over.

Passersby tried to help Mercier, who was trapped under the bus, and State Police also attempted to revive the girl, but she died at the scene.  Go to full article

Harley crash north of Westport kills two, injures one

A motorcycle crash on Saturday left two people dead on a remote highway north of Westport, in the Champlain Valley. The accident involved a pack of fifteen motorcycles that were touring the North Country. Brian Mann has details.  Go to full article

NTSB: Traffic Warnings at I87 Checkpoint "Ineffective"

The National Transportation Safety Board says safety measures at an immigration checkpoint on the Northway are "ineffective" and contradictory. In a report issued late last week, the NTSB urged the Department of Homeland Security to develop national guidelines for traffic stop on highways. Brian Mann has details.  Go to full article

Border Patrol Faces More I-87 Checkpoint Questions

Two New York congressmen will meet with Border Patrol officials today in Washington. Republicans John McHugh and John Sweeney will question the Border Patrol about safety measures at a controversial immigration checkpoint on I-87. Plane Crash Claims Tupper Lake Couple

A Tupper Lake couple died Friday night when their single-engine plane crashed near the airport in Lake Clear. Paul and Alice Grulich were returning home from Virginia, when the plane went down in snow and fog. Brian Mann reports.  Go to full article

Fort Drum Remembers Helicopter Crash

Fort Drum will pause tomorrow in memory of the soldiers who died in a training helicopter crash last year. The cause of the accident still hasn't been determined. David Sommerstein reports.  Go to full article

Fuel Truck Recovered After Ausable River Crash
