May 20, 2005 — State police arrested a Gouverneur doctor and her assistant Wednesday for allegedly providing prescriptions for drug addicts and dealers. Doctor Gail DeHart and her office manager Joan Kingdon operated a private practice from the doctor's home. Dr. DeHart had worked in the past at E.J. Noble Hospital and at a clinic in Edwards. The two face charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance. Officials say she billed the drugs to the taxpayer-funded Medicaid system. The state attorney general's office may press charges of fraud. David Sommerstein spoke with St. Lawrence County acting District Attorney Gary Miles. He says Dr. DeHart was prescribing large amounts of painkillers, like Oxycontin and morphine, to dozens of patients.  Go to full article

May 17, 2005 — An appeals court has once again upheld the most serious convictions in the Jeffrey Glanda murder trial. Glanda was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering his estranged wife. He was also convicted of attempted murder after ramming a Lake Placid police car. Mar 30, 2005 — St. Lawrence County police are looking for up to 50 morphine patches and painkillers. Several teens stole the drugs from a house Friday night. As David Sommerstein reports, three teens overdosed on the drugs at a party. One remains in the hospital.  Go to full article

Feb 23, 2005 — The search continues for a Glens Falls man accused of murdering his wife on Sunday. Police now say 42-year-old Laurie DiLorenzo went to a police station just minutes before she was shot three times with a hunting rifle. Brian Mann has details.  Go to full article

Feb 22, 2005 — Police are still hunting today for a 48-year-old man accused of shooting his estranged wife to death in Glens Falls with a rifle as she sat in her car at a convenience store Sunday. Police say Raymond DiLorenzo apparently drove away, abandoned his car and was seen hitchhiking later Sunday on the Adirondack Northway. Brian Mann has details.  Go to full article

Feb 10, 2005 — A multi-page report in Sunday's Watertown Daily Times is making waves in Jefferson County. It details how a compulsive gambler stole millions of dollars from his supermodel step-daughter to pay for his addiction to Quick Draw lottery games. Sentencing of John Breen Jr. has been delayed while prosecutors attempt to tally exact how much money Breen stole. Meanwhile, the controversy has reached Watertown's mayor, Jeff Graham. Jan 26, 2005 — The population in New York's county jails is rising fast, by almost 25% in the last five years. It comes at a time when state officials are pressuring counties to close aging facilities. The result is an explosion in new jail construction. In the North Country, the price tag will well exceed a hundred millions dollars. Warren and Washington counties have opened new jails in the past two years. St. Lawrence, Essex, Herkimer, and Clinton counties are in the planning stages. As David Sommerstein reports, the costs of building the new facilities and housing inmates will fall on local taxpayers.  Go to full article

Jan 25, 2005 — The North Country is home to New York's three oldest county jails - in Hamilton, Essex, and St. Lawrence, in that order. Washington and Warren counties recently built new ones. Clinton County is expanding its 15 year-old facility. County jails have to do more than ever before. They handle all kinds of inmates. They have to follow a blizzard of state mandates. And they cost upwards of $40 million to build. But the state constitution says each of New York's 62 counties has to have one. Oct 07, 2004 — A Saratoga county man is suing two former priests and the Roman Catholic diocese of Albany for alleged sexual abuse. The case was filed on Tuesday. 41-year-old Michael Mooney claims he was molested in the early seventies and hopes to win three million dollars in compensation. As Brian Mann reports, one of the priests worked as a minister at the Glens Falls hospital in the 1990s after receiving counseling for alleged sexual misconduct.  Go to full article
