DNA database expansion draws local support
Albany, NY, Feb 02, 2012 — The state Senate has emphatically passed legislation that would expand New York's criminal DNA database. The bill would require people convicted of all crimes, including misdemeanors, to submit DNA samples to the state's DNA databank. Currently, only someone convicted of a felony, or certain types of misdemeanors, is required to submit a DNA sample.
Senators voted 50-10 Tuesday to pass the DNA Databank Expansion Bill. As Chris Morris reports, the bill has a lot support, but it could be tested in the Assembly. Go to full article

Silver pushes for minimum wage hike, worries about pension changes

Roswell park faces state cuts, lobbies for alternatives
Buffalo, NY, Feb 01, 2012 — The Roswell Park Cancer Institute relies on $100 million in taxpayer funding each year. Governor Cuomo wants to zero out that budget line for the Buffalo research facility by 2014.

Albany, NY, Jan 24, 2012 — County leaders around the North Country have been asking the state for mandate relief, especially since New York imposed a 2% property tax cap on local governments last year. Their biggest beef is paying for Medicaid. It accounts for the largest percentage of many county budgets, and many county leaders don't think those costs should be their responsibility.
