Candidates in 23rd district race meet in Plattsburgh
(10/28/09) This evening, two of the three candidates for the 23rd congressional district house seat will take part in a debate in the E. Glenn Giltz auditorium. That's in Hawkins Hall at SUNY Plattsburgh. The forum begins at 5 pm and North Country Public Radio will broadcast the program beginning at 7 o'clock, following All Things Considered. Martha Foley talks with NCPR Adirondack bureau chief, Brian Mann, who is one of the debate co-moderators.

(10/06/04) Last night, St. Lawrence University presented it's own debate of the issues being discussed this political season. Conservative commentator Bay Buchanan and former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, a Democrat, largely focused on Iraq and national security. But they also spent time talking about domestic issues like jobs and education, and at one point, turned to the topic of how to make the democratic process stronger.

(10/01/04) A group of students, faculty and some community members at Plattsburgh State last night avoided the who-won, who-lost instant analysis of the first presidential debate. The "Debate Watch" crowd assembled by the school's Mass Communication Honorary Society watched, listened and then talked about it. While the two agreed on many issues, Andrew Cuomo, the former Housing Secretary, who's behind in the polls, jabbed continuously at the frontrunner Carl McCall, who is the state's comptroller. (08/20/02) Andrew Cuomo says he'll focus his criticism on Carl McCall's job performance as state comptroller for the past eight years.
Cuomo is trailing McCall in the polls. The two are competing for the Democratic nomination for governor. The latest poll shows McCall leading Cuomo 47 percent to 31 percent among Democrats. Karen Dewitt has more.
