NY 23rd Race: Doheny parses "good" and "bad" government
Alexandria Bay, NY, May 06, 2010 — Alexandria Bay businessman Matt Doheny came into the race for the 23rd Congressional district with a liability. His main competition for the Republican primary, Douglas Hoffman, had massive name recognition after last year's special election. But Doheny has out-fundraised Hoffman. And he's secured more support from GOP county chairs. He sat down recently with David Sommerstein. In a moment, we'll hear his stance on immigration reform. He believes illegal immigrant farmworkers should have to go home before they can apply for a guest worker program. First, Doheny talks about his opposition to the federal stimulus package. In his stump speech, Doheny distinguishes between "good" and "bad" government spending. He supports federal spending at Fort Drum, and on roads and highways and bridges. NY23 Race: Hoffman takes on government spending & GOP "party bosses"
May 05, 2010 — Last year, Lake Placid accountant Doug Hoffman emerged as a symbol of the national tea party movement. In the 23rd district special election, the Conservative candidate toppled Republican Dede Scozzafava, before falling short in his race against Democrat Bill Owens.
This year, Hoffman is back and he's running in the Republican primary against Watertown businessman Matthew Doheny. In the early going, Doheny has out-fundraised Hoffman. Doheny has also picked up far more support from local Republican leaders, who chair county committees in the district. But Doug Hoffman says his campaign will once again tap into grassroots anger at Washington DC.

Doheny launches bid for 23rd Congressional seat
Canton, NY, Apr 08, 2010 — Jefferson County investment banker Matt Doheny officially launched his bid for Congress yesterday. The Republican made stops in Oswego, Watertown, and Canton.
