SARS Disease Turns Up In New York

Dozens of cases of a deadly flu-like illness known as Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome have been reported in the United States. Two cases have been confirmed in northern New York - and more than a hundred across the border in Ontario. Snowmobile Accident Kills Cadyville Woman

This weekend brought another snowmobile death in the north country. A 28-year-old woman from Cadyville died Saturday night after being thrown from a sled. As Brian Mann reports, one of the drivers involved in the accident has been charged with driving while intoxicated.  Go to full article

Thousands of North Country Families Could Lose Home Energy Help

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton says more than eighty thousand families in New York could lose home heating assistance this winter. The Bush Administration wants to cut subsidies that help low-income families pay their energy bills. With New York recovering from its second big winter storm of the season and home heating prices on the rise, critics say thousands of poor people in the north country could be hurt. December Snowmobile Deaths Mount

Xmas Storm Hits Herkimer County Hardest

Herkimer County is returning to normal this morning after a Christmas day snowstorm that shut down the Thruway and many local roads. Coming Soon: Emergency & Cell Phone Service on Northway

At its meeting today in Ray Brook, the Adirondack Park Agency is expected to approve a new emergency phone system on I-87. The old network hasn't functioned properly for years. As Brian Mann reports, the upgraded system will also mean better cell phone coverage in the remote area between Schroon Lake and Peru.  Go to full article

Hunter?s Body Found Near Inlet

The search for a missing hunter in Hamilton County ended Wednesday afternoon, after three grueling days. Despite a foot of fresh snow and sub-zero temperatures, rescue workers located the body of 58-year-old Arthur Birchmeyer. The Syracuse man disappeared on Saturday in a remote area of the cemtral Adirondacks. As Brian Mann reports, forest rangers suspect that Birchmeyer died of hypothermia or natural causes.  Go to full article
