May 03, 2013 — KEENE, N.Y. (AP) State transportation officials say they've postponed a project to repair the slopes along one of the main roads in the Adirondack Mountains.

Elizabethtown, NY, Dec 14, 2012 — The Adirondack Park Agency approved a new $16 million emergency communication system that will link first responders over a huge swath of the central and eastern Adirondacks.

APA commissioners voted unanimously to green light the project, which will mean improved communication for police, fire, and ambulance squads from Tupper Lake to Johnsburg to Elizabethtown.  Go to full article

Schroon Lake, NY, Oct 24, 2012 — A local square dancing tradition in Schroon Lake continues to draw hundreds of particpants. Since the 1930s, it's been a weekly social event in July and August. TAUNY gave the dance organizers a 2012 North Country Heritage Award on Sunday.

Todd Moe talks with musician Ed Lowman, coordinator of the Schroon Lake Square Dances. He's a fiddler who has helped lead the dances since 1979. Lowman says the dance steps and tunes vary from week to week. At a time when square dancing has decreased in popularity in some parts of the country, he's excited to see young families, seniors and even teens turning out to "do-si-do".  Go to full article

Keene Valley, NY, Sep 20, 2012 — It'll be all things rutabaga in Keene on Sunday. The Fifth Annual Great Adirondack Rutabaga Festival begins at 9am on Marcy Fields--the final event of a week-long celebration of local food in Essex County. Elizabethtown, NY, Aug 13, 2012 — A new task force is being formed to deal with animal cruelty in Essex County. Essex County Board of Supervisors Chairman Randy Douglas, supervisor of the town of Jay, said last week he will appoint county lawmakers and officials to the proposed task force, which will also include members of local humane societies and county residents. Elizabethtown, NY, Jun 04, 2012 — On Saturday more than a hundred people rallied at the Horace Nye nursing home in Elizabethtown. Essex County supervisors may vote as early as tomorrow to privatize the home, as a cost-cutting measure. Opponents say the home is a vital service provided by the county.

Lake Placid, NY, Jan 20, 2012 — The state Supreme Court Appellate Division is a step closer to ruling on a case involving a Lake Placid family targeted for building a pair of boathouses without permits from the town of North Elba.
