Cuomo, leaders name new state ethics commission
I expect a much more rigorous and robust enforcement of the state ethics laws.
(12/13/11) Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders named 14 people to the newest version of the state ethics commission Monday. The new agency is charged with enforcing ethics in state government. It will oversee and investigate compliance by lawmakers. It will also monitor statewide elected officials as well as executive branch and legislative employees.

As Karen DeWitt reports, the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, or JCOPE, by law begins its work on Tuesday. more

Essex County contract questions prompt "politics" charge
(10/07/11) A special prosecutor is looking into whether Essex County's clerk and some of his employees showed favor when they awarded a contract for document scanning.

But discussion about the investigation during a board of supervisors meeting this week prompted complaints that the matter is being politicized in an attempt to hurt Clerk Joe Provoncha's re-election bid.

(05/19/11) Governor Andrew Cuomo dominated Albany this year, pushing his austerity budget through the legislature on time with only token opposition.

With his poll numbers still high, Cuomo is barnstorming the state again, hoping to pass another ambitious slate of bills before the current session ends June 20.

Yesterday, the governor brought his "People First Campaign" to the Olympic region, pushing for ethics reform, a cap on local property taxes, and a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage. Chris Morris has our report. more
