Classic Tupper Lake history book reborn
Tupper Lake, NY, Dec 08, 2009 — Todd Moe talks with publisher and editor Andy Flynn about the new edition of Mostly Spruce and Hemlock. The Tupper Lake history book was first published by Louis Simmons in 1976. Simmons was a well-known newspaperman and historian in the town for more than 40 years. His book details the early days of life in Tupper Lake and was an instant best-seller. Flynn says the new edition is a reprint of the classic book. Go to full article
Historians honor ?Adirondack Attic? series
Apr 15, 2008 — The fifth book in Saranac Lake writer Andy Flynn's "Adirondack Attic" series is due out next month. Since 2003, Flynn has teamed up with the Adirondack Museum to write a weekly column in five regional newspapers about some of the museums artifacts. The books are based on the columns. His work was honored last weekend by the Upstate History Alliance with a Certificate of Commendation. Todd Moe spoke with Andy Flynn about collecting stories on life in the Adirondacks. Fighting 69th reinvents itself for a long fight
Feb 13, 2008 — This week, NCPR reported on a new study that says National Guard and Reserve soldiers face frequent deployments that will continue well into the future. Since 9/11, National Guard units from New York and Vermont have spent time in the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan. A new book, called The Fighting 69th, follows the experiences of one of those units. Brian Mann spoke with the author, Sean Michael Flynn. Flynn was recognized with the Bronze Star after serving with the 69th in Iraq and still serves as a captain with New York's National Guard in Albany. When terrorists struck Manhattan on Sept. 11, Flynn said, the infantry regiment was one of the first groups of soldiers to respond.

Books: Adirondack Attic 4
Jul 27, 2007 — Saranac Lake Writer and photographer Andy Flynn continues his research this summer into some of the little know artifacts stored at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. For the last few years he has written a weekly newspaper column called "Adirondack Attic" and a series of books of the same name. Andy's research takes him into the museum's archives and storage spaces and sometimes items on permanent display. Todd Moe caught up with him to talk about his books, the Adirondack Attic History Project and some of the items in the museum's 50th anniversary exhibit. Go to full article
Burlington's Flynn Celebrates 75 Years
Feb 07, 2006 — A special gallery exhibit at the Flynn Center in Burlington celebrates the center's colorful history. The Flynn was a movie palace in the 1930's and was reborn as a performing arts center in the early 80's. The exhibit, The Flynn, Vermont's Wonder Theatre, continues through April 8. Spokesman Tom Ayres told Todd Moe that the new exhibit looks at the Flynn's integral role in the community. Go to full article
