Sep 30, 2002 — A Canadian company will spend more than twenty million dollars refurbishing the paper mill in Newton Falls. The plan--which will mean roughly 120 job--was unveiled Sunday at a ceremony in the village. The economy in southern St. Lawrence County was devastated three years ago when the Newton Falls mill shut down. Sep 02, 2002 — 85 new jobs coming to Lowville will help decrease unemployment rates in Lewis County. Fibermark Incorporated, which produces speciality paper is merging its Rhode Island plant into its Lowville operation. Nov 26, 2001 — A just-released study by two environmental groups has found high levels of arsenic on the surface of pressure-treated wood products. The Environmental Working Group and the Healthy Building Network tested pressure-treated wood purchased from home improvement stores in 13 cities. Those chemicals are now being re-evaluated by both the Canadian and American governments.
