NY Nat'l Guard Reservists Bound for Iraq

An infantry battalion of the New York National Guard has been mobilized by the Defense Department for service in the Middle East. More than 100 people from units based in Saranac Lake, Ogdensburg, Morrisonville and Glens Falls are among the 670 members of the 27th Light Infantry Brigade, scheduled to be deployed to Iraq this winter.  Go to full article

Media attention over the weekend focused on the war in Iraq - and on massive protests in New York City. But the war has also come home to small towns here in the North Country. Rallies and vigils and prayer services have been held across the region. In Glens Falls, peace protesters and those who support the war squared off Saturday in a tense confrontation. GE Strike Looms In Fort Edward

General Electric's factories in Fort Edward and Schenectady are facing their first national strike in more than thirty years. GE's largest unions - representing some twenty thousand workers - say they'll stage a two-day protest next week. New Homeless Shelter in Glens Falls Serves Military Veterans

The state of New York has given nearly 170 thousand dollars to a new homeless shelter in Glens Falls, that offers transitional housing to military veterans. The shelter was established when a government survey found a high number of vets in the region who are living in "inadequate housing". Brian Mann spoke with the shelter's director and has our story.

First Winter Snowstorm: Centers Around Glens Falls

Preview: Guys on Ice

The Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls kicks off its 8th season with a musical comedy about life, love and ice-fishing. Set in an ice shanty on a frozen northern Wisconsin lake, Guys On Ice tells the story of long-time pals Lloyd and Marvin who keep warm with a mutual appreciation for good bait, conversation about life and tales of the one that got away. NLRB Rejects Union Complaints at Finch, Pryun

The legal wrangling continues in the wake of the failed Finch, Pruyn strike in Glens Falls. This week, the National Labor Relations Board rejected complaints filed by the union at the timber company.
