Officials Watch Clinton County Dams

Emergency officials are still monitoring two dams on the Great Chazy River in Clinton County. After a week of heavy rain, a six-foot hole opened in the cement dam at Miner Lake, in the Town of Altona. Thin Ice Treacherous for Snowmobile Riders

Officials in northern New York, Vermont, and Ontario are urging snowmobile riders to stay off of frozen lakes and rivers. A warmer-than-usual January combined with several rainstorms have left patchy ice conditions in many areas. Two deaths have been reported in Ontario over the last week after sleds went through the ice. In the north country, two men are in critical condition following break-throughs. River Ice Moves: Still Some Risk of Floods

After a hard winter, the North Country's frozen rivers are breaking up, sending rafts of ice a foot thick downstream. In parts of the region, ice jams have formed, flooding fields and front yards. As Brian Mann reports, the melt has been orderly so far, with no damaged buildings, but with rain showers in the forecast officials are still nervous.  Go to full article
