Survey finds gun law toll on Cuomo's ratings

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's championing of strict new gun control laws in New York has taken a toll on his popularity. Opinions are divided on the law's provisions. But a new poll finds that for the first time since taking office, Cuomo's approval rating has dropped significantly.  Go to full article

Other states court Remington Arms gun manufacturer

At least five states are trying to lure the gun manufacturer Remington Arms to relocate from upstate New York.

Will gun owners go along with NY's tough new law?

The New York State Police held informational meetings with gun owners and dealers yesterday around the state. The meetings were designed to answer questions about how New York's tough new gun control law will be implemented.

That law, signed by Governor Cuomo earlier this month, includes strict regulation of assault rifles, closer tracking of gun sales, and a phased-in ban of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

At a meeting in Lake Placid, gun owners from the North Country asked for clarification about how the rules would affect their gun collections.

Owens hears North Country concerns on listening tour

Congressman Bill Owens has been getting an earful from North Country community leaders this month, leaving the Plattsburgh Democrat with even more work to do as Congress prepares to tackle big, time-consuming issues like proposals to strengthen gun laws and solving the country's debt problems.

Owens has been meeting with business, government, education and nonprofit officials from across the 21st Congressional District to hear about their concerns.  Go to full article

Journalists want NY gun holder records to remain public

A national journalism organization is calling on New York to restore public access to gun permit records. The names and addresses of people who hold gun permits were considered public information until last week, when the state legislature and Governor Cuomo approved gun control legislation.  Go to full article

Small outfitter says gun laws could cripple business

Gun sellers in the North Country are digesting the new state gun control laws passed this week. Most aren't happy with what they're finding out.

North Woods Outfitters in Potsdam caters to hunters. The modest shop has a country store feel, with wood paneling and homemade shelving. A steady stream of customers walks in Thursday morning. A couple older guys with NRA patches sewn on their jeans jackets head straight to the counter where the ammunition is.

Store owner Rick Jones looks a little worried. He says boxes of bullets are flying off the shelves.  Go to full article

New poll finds wide support of Cuomo agenda

A survey from Siena College pollsters finds voters overwhelming support many of the items that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is pushing, including parts of the newly enacted gun control law.  Go to full article
