Cool: 2 upstate NY hotels build outdoor ice bars

BOLTON LANDING, N.Y. (AP) Two upstate New York lakeside hotels are offering guests a unique way to chill out this weekend.

Investor plans to revive historic Hotel Saranac

A developer with ties to Saranac Lake has announced plans to purchase and renovate the historic Hotel Saranac in the heart of the village.

Fred Roedel, who lives in Wilton, New Hampshire, issued a statement yesterday saying that the refurbished hotel "will drive vitality and economic stability to the area."

The project is expected to cost roughly $13 million and will require a significant investment from taxpayers.  Go to full article

Big new luxury hotel planned for Saranac Lake waterfront

A developer from Malone says he plans to build a new luxury resort-hotel in the village of Saranac Lake. The five-story, 90-room hotel would sit on the shore of Lake Flower, at a location now occupied by three waterside motels.  Go to full article

APA set to approve new I-87 "frankenpine" cell tower; safety cited as priority

New Lake Placid Resorts Mean Competition For Mom & Pop Hotels

The North Country's newest luxury resort is nearing completion in Lake Placid. Whiteface Lodge will offer hotel rooms and condominiums. There will also be a year-round ice rink, a spa and even a movie theater. Construction of another luxury hotel has just begun on the opposite side of the village. Tourism experts say more of the region's visitors are looking for this kind of high-end extravagance. APA: Controversial Hotel Approved in Lake George

On Wednesday (Oct. 30) the Adirondack Park Agency staff approved a permit for a new 97-room hotel in Lake George.
