Xmas eve flood at Hotel Saranac

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting that a serious flood struck last night in the basement of the historic Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake.

According to the newspaper, firefighters and village workers spent part of Christmas eve pumping between six and ten feet of water out of the buiding's basement.  Go to full article

Gov. Cuomo takes personal interest in Hotel Saranac deal

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has taken an interest in a New Hampshire-based company's plan to buy and renovate an iconic hotel in downtown Saranac Lake. The governor participated in a conference call Monday about Roedel Companies' proposal to acquire the Hotel Saranac.

On Tuesday, Cuomo dispatched the head of Empire State Development to Saranac Lake for a meeting with the project's developer, who's seeking $5 million from the state.

The pending sale of the Hotel Saranac is one of two major hotel deals announced within two weeks of each other this summer in Saranac Lake. Both projects have been generating a lot of interest and plenty of enthusiasm in the community.  Go to full article

Investor plans to revive historic Hotel Saranac

A developer with ties to Saranac Lake has announced plans to purchase and renovate the historic Hotel Saranac in the heart of the village.

Fred Roedel, who lives in Wilton, New Hampshire, issued a statement yesterday saying that the refurbished hotel "will drive vitality and economic stability to the area."

The project is expected to cost roughly $13 million and will require a significant investment from taxpayers.  Go to full article

Hotel Saranac faces uncertain future

The future of a local landmark in Saranac Lake is in question after Paul Smith's College officials told students this week that they plans to move the college's culinary and hotel management programs from the Hotel Saranac to the Crown Plaza Resort in Lake Placid.
