An Energy Efficent Habitat
Nov 28, 2002 — Habitat For Humanity is a not-for-profit organization known for building affordable housing for low-income families. The Raquette Valley Habitat For Humanity chapter is taking the model a step further. It is building an affordable home in the town of Rensselaer Falls in St. Lawrence County that uses 30% less energy than a conventional home. Disabled Demand More Housing Rights

Mobil Home Replacement Receives Added Funding
Feb 28, 2002 — Additional state funding is expected to help North Country affordable housing place more people into new homes and out of substandard housing. The agency began the Mobil Home Replacement program in 1995, in Jefferson County and has since expanded its service to Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. Mobile Home Replacement Program
Jan 29, 2001 — For many, owning a home on a plot of land is the Great American Dream. And the quickest route to realizing that dream is often the most affordable option: the mobile home, or trailer. But a cheap price tag can also mean shoddy construction. Some mobile homes quickly become leaky and expensive to heat in winter, and can become fire hazards for their occupants. A successful Jefferson County program has helped families replace their old trailers with more permanent homes. And now the program is targeting substandard trailers in St. Lawrence and Lewis counties as well. But the quality and consistency of mobile homes has changed over the years, and dealers think the program gives mobile homes a bad rap. David Sommerstein has the story.
