Heard Up North: World's Largest Cowbell Ensemble
Burlington, VT, Apr 16, 2012 — 15 years ago Ben and Jerry's teamed up with Vermont band Phish to create their now-famous ice cream flavor, Phish Food. On Saturday they aimed for another accomplishment, setting a record for the world's largest cowbell ensemble while raising money for flood relief in Vermont.
1600 people wearing spotted T-shirts, eating free ice cream, and waving cowbells packed onto Church Street. Phish drummer John Fishman led them in classic rock covers. The first song: 1968 hit "Time Has Come Today," by the Chambers Brothers.

Very Special Places: Donnelly?s Ice Cream Stand
Aug 14, 2007 — The dairy farm-turned ice cream stand is a common sight in the Northeast. And for many people in the Adirondacks only one place will satisfy their ice cream cravings and that's Donnelly's. For over fifty years it has been a favorite summer gathering place in the tri-lakes region. Today, NCPR and TAUNY, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, continue our look at some very special places in the North Country. For most of our features in this series Varick Chittenden and Joel Hurd visit a place, gather interviews and sound and head for home. But for Donnelly's they felt it was important to make several stops in the last few months just t make sure the ice cream is as good as everyone says it is. Mar 28, 2007 — A North Country dairy is one of the first in the country to make and sell wine ice cream. It's not wine-flavored, it's wine and cream - frozen. The mixture breaks some long-held culinary taboos and it's poised to make Mercer's Dairy in Boonville a national brand. There are three flavors out now: Ala Port, White Zinfandel - with peaches, and Raspberry Chardonnay. Roxaina Hurlburt is Mercer's spokeswoman. She told Jonathan Brown the wine ice cream was born in food fairs, where she met New York State winemakers. Go to full article
