Thousands Still Without Power After Ice Storm Damage

Work crews from the North Country have joined a clean up effort in western and central New York. A wicked ice storm over the weekend left more than 300,000 homes without power and at least four people dead. Brian Mann reports.  Go to full article

River Ice Moves: Still Some Risk of Floods

After a hard winter, the North Country's frozen rivers are breaking up, sending rafts of ice a foot thick downstream. In parts of the region, ice jams have formed, flooding fields and front yards. Ice Fishing on the St. Lawrence

The long, cold winter has made for an extra long, if frigid, season for the St. Lawrence River's many ice fishermen. Saturday is the last day of the season on the river. Ice Sculptor Tim Linhart: Pachabel on Ice

Ice and snow sculpting are signature components of a North Country winter. The ice palace in Saranac Lake, the snow sculpting competition in St. Regis Falls make the best of the seasonal chill. As a warmer sun and longer days bid farewell to the snow, David Sommerstein brings us one last tribute to winter.

Ice sculpting is also popular in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, where David used to live. One creative sculptor crafted a quintet - three basses and two cellos - made almost entirely of ice.  Go to full article

Cool Fundraiser

The annual Polar Bear Dip netted over 6-thousand dollars this year for the Colton Rescue Squad. The fundraiser was held Sunday at the Shoreline Restaurant in Hannawa Falls. Sunny skies and mild temperatures were on tap for the 30 dippers who plunged into the icy waters of the Raquette River.
