Sep 24, 2002 — Although the primaries were over two weeks ago, the results of the Independence party primary are still being tallied. According to the final, but unofficial, vote count from the State Board of Elections, Rochester businessman Tom Golisano beat Governor George Pataki by less than 500 votes. Golisano received 9,572 votes to Pataki's 9,076 votes. Over the weekend, Golisano tried to mend fences with the fractured party that he founded in 1994.
