State reopens dispute over old road, part of Jackrabbit trail

On Friday, the state Department of Environmental Conservation filed court documents reopening a dispute involving an old road that runs between Lake Placid and Keene.

The controversial case involves a section of the route which is now used as part of the Jackrabbit ski trail.

Green groups say the outcome of the dispute will set a precedent for how road-closures are handled throughout the Adirondack Park.

But as Chris Morris reports, snowmobile activists and town leaders say the case has already been settled.  Go to full article

Fire destroys most of Jackrabbit Inn

Investigators were on scene yesterday trying to determine what sparked a fire that destroyed most of the Jackrabbit Inn outside Lake Placid Sunday night. Firefighters from more than a half-dozen departments were called to the motel, on State Route 73, after a passing motorist saw smoke coming from the building. Skiing the Jackrabbit on a Sticky Snow Day

One of the most popular ski trails in the Adirondacks runs through the McKenzie Mt. Wilderness between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. APA Studies Scenic Impact of Proposed Subdivision

A developer hopes to build an eight-home subdivision on the outskirts of Lake Placid. The land sits on the edge of a wilderness area and straddles part of the popular Jackrabbit Ski Trail.
