Jul 05, 2002 — The St. Lawrence County village of Massena kicked off two weeks of events this week to celebrate its 200th birthday. Tomorrow marks another Massena milestone. Alcoa--the Aluminum Company of America--commemorates 100 years since it broke ground on its aluminum smelting operation.

Alcoa made Massena a classic company town for decades. Today's residents are descendants of European immigrants who sought work at the height of the industrial age. So, again this year, North Country high school students got to so some mock interviews during the eighth annual "Gateways to Careers" event held at Clarkson University. Mar 14, 2002 — Stakeholders in the North Country dairy industry are hoping a series of meeting will help them develop a strategy for keeping area agricultural businesses successful. More than 100 people representing many sides of the dairy industry have been meeting since last November and have compiled dozens of ideas, including how to improve education, marketing and milk-pricing. Mar 07, 2002 — New York's Labor Department has released its latest employment numbers and the jobs picture looks bleak for much of the state. Hit by the September 11th terrorist attack and by a global recession, the state lost more than 140,000 jobs last year.
