Canton Kraft Plant to Close in June
Jan 28, 2004 — After 50 years of making cheese in its Canton factory, Kraft Foods is closing its operations in June. Kraft said in 2002 that it would re-eveluate the Canton operation, weighing the small, old plant against its other facilities around the world. Earlier this week Kraft -- now a subsidiary of Philip Morris -- announced it would cut thousands of jobs at all levels of its organization over the next two years. Jun 25, 2003 — The North Country dairy industry is facing some of its bleakest times in memory this summer. Farmers are going deeper into debt and working jobs off the farm. The main culprit for the crisis is a year and a half of extremely low milk prices. The depressed market has forced many farmers to start spin-off businesses to make ends meet.
