Oct 22, 2001 — Officials with Finch Pruyn say they'll fire up the fourth paper machine today at their mill in Glens Falls. The move will return the plant to full capacity, despite a strike that has left six hundred workers off the job. The company now says it will begin hiring permanent replacement workers. Jul 09, 2001 — United Helpers Canton Nursing home workers voted in favor of unionization on Friday, during an election overseen by the National Labor Relations Board. Jun 25, 2001 — The SEIU, which represents hospital and nursing home workers in northern New York is calling on legislators to adopt regulations guaranteeing adequate staffing at nursing homes. May 10, 2001 — This is Nurses Week, a time when health care workers are recognized for their professional skills and dedication. But a national shortage of nurses and other professionals has put the week of recognition on the back-burner and galvanized some New York nurses to organize a petition-signing campaign. They want better working conditions at hospitals throughout the state. A group of vans with members from the New York State Nurses Association is touring the state this week seeking support for a change in health care laws.
