(01/30/12) Officials in Harrietstown have organized a new citizens committee to study the cost and future management of the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear. The airport was the target of a scathing report from the state Comptroller's office earlier this month that found the facility had been mismanaged.

(08/26/10) An Adirondack woman missing since the weekend was found dead yesterday after an intensive search north of Saranac Lake. State police haven't yet disclosed the cause of death, or said whether the incident is being considered suspicious. Chris Morris has details.

(10/02/08) Another North Country school is closing its doors for good. At the end of the current school year, students at Lake Clear Elementary -- part of the Saranac Lake Central School District -- will be sent to other buildings. The move follows a unanimous decision by the local school board last night. Chris Knight has details.
(04/23/08) NCPR is media sponsor for "Local Foods Connections," three events in early May celebrating the agriculture of the North Country with a focus on local food and the farm-to-table movement. The events will feature food experts, farmers, chefs and business people working toward local food sustainability. The events are May 1st in Lake Clear, May 2nd in Alexandria Bay and May 3rd in Croghan. Todd Moe spoke with Jefferson County Cooperative Extension's Molly Ames, one of the organizers.

(02/21/08) A consultant hired by the Saranac Lake School Board outlined options for possible downsizing of the Saranac Lake School District at a school board meeting last night. Management Advisory Group is recommending the district close Lake Clear Elementary School due to declining enrollment. About 40 Lake Clear parents and other district residents showed up at last night's meeting, most objecting to the closing of their neighborhood school. As Chris Knight reports, school board members appear to be split on the issue.
(01/21/08) Since airline de-regulation in the 1970s, America's small towns have struggled to find companies and passengers willing to use their airports. Here in the North Country, five airports are currently without service following the collapse of Big Sky airlines. Two new carriers have applied to take over those routes. But as Brian Mann reports, the number of airlines willing to serve rural airports is dwindling, despite Federal subsidies that total more than 100 million dollars a year.

(11/01/07) Big Sky Airlines began flying planes yesterday out of the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear and the Plattsburgh Airport. Operating as a Delta connection, Big Sky will provide three round trip flights each weekday and each weekend to Boston. As Chris Knight reports from Saranac Lake, business leaders and elected officials are optimistic the service will be used by local residents and tourists.
(10/29/07) The Adirondack Park Agency says the owners of a luxury home near Tupper Lake will have to move the structure, or pay a $50,000 fine. APA officials say the house was built illegally on the shoreline of Lake Clear. Chris Knight has details.
(09/14/07) Montana-based Big-Sky Airlines has secured the federal subsidy to provide commercial air service at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear and Plattsburgh International Airport. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Big Sky, the only company to submit a proposal, a $2.4 million annual subsidy on Thursday. Big Sky already flies out of the airports in Watertown, Ogdensburg and Massena. As Chris Knight reports, local officials hope their residents will embrace the new service.
