Big Sky begins north country flights

Big Sky Airlines began flying planes yesterday out of the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear and the Plattsburgh Airport. Operating as a Delta connection, Big Sky will provide three round trip flights each weekday and each weekend to Boston. APA cracks down on Lake Clear homeowners

Big Sky air routes to include Lake Clear and Plattsburgh

Montana-based Big-Sky Airlines has secured the federal subsidy to provide commercial air service at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear and Plattsburgh International Airport. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Big Sky, the only company to submit a proposal, a $2.4 million annual subsidy on Thursday. Big Sky already flies out of the airports in Watertown, Ogdensburg and Massena. As Chris Knight reports, local officials hope their residents will embrace the new service.  Go to full article

Adirondack plane crash victim had criminal past

The man who died in a plane crash last month at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear had assumed another identity for more than 15 years in an attempt to escape what police say was a criminal past. 49 year-old Scott Thomas has been tentatively identified through his fingerprints as Phillip W. Cook, according to State Police, who also found a suitcase with $60,000 in cash in the plane wreckage. Chris Knight reports.  Go to full article

Budgets OKed; Voters Save Lake Clear School

The vast majority of school budgets passed in the North Country yesterday. Budgets were defeated in Gouverneur, Indian Lake, Fort Edward, and Hadley-Luzerne Central School. Most spending propositions passed too. But voters in Massena said no to a $30 million dollar capital project to improve playing fields and add space to the school buildings. In Glens Falls a 2.5 million dollar proposal to install synthetic turf at the high school football field was narrowly defeated. It was a clean sweep for school budgets in Clinton, Essex, Jefferson, Lewis and Franklin counties.
But in Saranac Lake, voters rejected several controversial spending proposals, including a plan that would have meant the closure of an elementary school in Lake Clear. Chris Knight has more.  Go to full article

Saranac Lake School In Question

Voters in the Saranac Lake School District will head to the polls on Tuesday to decide the fate of a small elementary school in Lake Clear. The school, which currently has 55 students, has been targeted for closure due to declining enrollment and rising building maintenance costs. But, as Chris Knight reports, a large group of Lake Clear parents and residents are urging the voters to reject a proposition that would lead to the school's closure.  Go to full article

Plane Crash Claims Tupper Lake Couple

A Tupper Lake couple died Friday night when their single-engine plane crashed near the airport in Lake Clear. Paul and Alice Grulich were returning home from Virginia, when the plane went down in snow and fog. Brian Mann reports.  Go to full article

President Visits Adirondacks for Earth Day

President George Bush is scheduled to arrive at Lake Clear Airport later this morning. He'll spend Earth Day in the Adirondacks, helping to rebuild a trail and talking about his plan to cut acid rain.
